Arizona Pointing
Dog Club Events
Field
Trials & Fun Hunts
The AZPDC holds approximately five (5) events
annually. These events provide the membership with an opportunity
to spend a week-end with family and friends in the cooler more
scenic parts of Arizona.
Members are able to evaluate the level of their
dogs training and receive help from more experienced members
on how to proceed with their training at these events.
A potluck is held on Saturday night at these
events to afford an opportunity for you and your family to mingle
and form new friendships.
All of the dogs that place in the Gun Dog trials
are eligible for the Arizona Gundog Championship held in the
early Spring each year. This event pits some of the best
hunting dogs in the state of Arizona against one and another. This
event has grown with each year and the title and prestige of
the event is a fitting reward for the amateur trainers who place
in it.
The AZPDC also attempts to hold at least one
event from the American Kennel Club, The National Shoot to Retrieve
Association, and The American Field in conjunction with its
trials to allow its members to experience other types of event
in a relaxed setting.
Training Seminars
The AZPDC's primary focus is on helping the amateur
handler to learn how to train and handle his or her dog in order
to enhance his or her enjoyment of the sport. This goal
has been instrumental in the clubs growth from (9) members in
1982 to well over a one hundred active members at this time. We
are the largest Pointing Dog Club in the Southwest as well as
enjoying the respect of our peers on the national level.
The club holds two (2) formal training seminars
each year. One designed for the members who have older
dogs that have yet to be finished and the other is designed
for the members with puppies six months and older. Help
is offered to prevent gun shyness and also on methods to introduce
the dog to birds. At the seminar for older dogs, such fine
points as making your dog steady to wing, shot, fall, and honoring
your brace mate's are covered.
The Club's Officers and Board also maintain,
informally, the training schedules of the more experienced members. This
affords the members a chance to meet them and gain their assistance
in training your dogs.

To
make these trials a success the club needs volunteers
to chair and help with the trials.
